Mr. Emrich joined APJeT as the CEO and President in May, 2007. From 2000-2005, he was the CEO and President of Guilford Mills, Inc., located in Greensboro, NC. Guilford is a $1B manufacturer of specialty fabrics for the automotive, industrial and apparel markets and has operations also in Mexico and Europe. Mr. Emrich restructured Guilford Mills in 2002 and redirected its manufacturing focus to the automotive and industrial fabric business, changing the business from a 60% apparel manufacturer to an 85% value-added automotive supplier. Mr. Emrich has over 38 years of executive experience in the textile industry and has an MBA from Adelphia University in Garden City, NY and a BBA in Marketing from Pace University. Mr. Emrich has established himself as a seasoned executive and business leader. Not only did he foresee the coming changes in the U.S. textile industry and reposition Guilford Mills up the value chain, but he also restructured the entire company in a unique way that left it viable and sold the company for an increase of 95% over a span of only 18 months. Mr. Emrich’s background also includes negotiating global deals including partnerships and joint ventures. He has also negotiated licensing agreements and royalty structures and has worked with nearly all major garment and sports apparel manufacturers, including Vanity Fair and Addidas. He is known by most, if not all, of the leaders of these key and influential companies. Having Mr. Emrich join our team is an important milestone and culminates a search of almost 2 years for the right CEO to lead APJeT in this next exciting phase of technology commercialization. Gary S. Selwyn, Ph.D. Founder, Chairman of the Board and CTO [ Resume ] [Email ] Dr. Selwyn has been a pioneer in the field of plasma chemistry and plasma processing of materials for 25 years. He is widely known for his discovery of plasma-generated particulate contamination in chip manufacturing processes. This work resulted in the design of plasma processing equipment for contamination control and in the development of process methods that are now routinely used in nearly every chip manufacturing facility. Dr. Selwyn received his B.S. degree in chemistry from the State University of New York at Albany (Summa Cum Laude) and his Ph.D. degree in chemical physics from University of California, Berkeley. After postdoctoral work at the University of Canterbury (Christchurch, New Zealand) and the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, DC, he joined IBM and eventually became a Research Manager at the IBM Watson Research Center. In 1993, he co-chaired a NATO Advanced Research Conference and he has since received two prestigious R&D100 Awards. He joined Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) as a physicist and principal investigator in 1994 and soon after was the original, sole inventor of the atmospheric pressure plasma jet technology. Dr. Selwyn has also run a successful consulting business for the semiconductor, flat panel and magnetic media industries and has consulted as an technology expert with over 40 companies worldwide. Dr. Selwyn is the principal founder of APJeT, Inc. and was successful in obtaining APJeT's exclusive license for the patent portfolio from LANL and the necessary investment capital from corporate sponsors. When he is not inventing, Dr. Selwyn enjoys scuba diving, skiing, sailing, fishing, fitness activities, hiking, camping, museums, classical music, and opera.
Alex Padilla Director of Sales & Business Development [ Email ] Mr. Padilla holds a B.S. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Arizona. He began his career as a design engineer at Texas Instruments and was later selected as the business development engineer that formed the calculator division. He transitioned to sales and sales management at IBM’s data processing division from where he was recruited to enter the world of “start-ups”. In his 29 years as a start up executive he has successfully led the business development efforts of six different companies which include computer equipment, medical imaging, professional services, data communications, consumer products, and internet services. He has served on the boards of both corporate and civic organizations and presently is a member of the board of directors for the Santa Fe Business Incubator and vice-chairman of Communities in School Foundation. Other outside interests include tennis, skiing and collecting southwest art.
John K. Van Sloun APJeT Board Member General Manager, Worldwide Helium Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. John K. Van Sloun was appointed general manager, Worldwide Helium in February 2005. He is responsible for Air Product’s global helium business. Mr. Van Sloun joined Air Products in 1980 as a startup engineer in the operations group. He became plant manager in 1983 at the Panhandle helium plant. In 1985 he managed the development of landfill gas recovery systems and then moved on to a commercial role in selling large Air Separation Units (ASU’s) in 1987. Mr. Van Sloun was transferred to Tokyo in 1991 where he was appointed Vice President Air Products Japan. He returned to the US in 1995 and was the manager for onsite development for ASU’s. In 1997, Mr. Van Sloun was named the engineering manager for packaged plants. Mr. Van Sloun was appointed Director of Materials Management in 2000 and then as the commercial manager for Coal Gasification and Refueling for electric power plants in 2002 before assuming his current position. Mr. Van Sloun was born in 1955 in Edina, Minnesota. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Minnesota in 1977.
Jay White APJeT Board Member President Morrison Textile Machinery Company John Morrison (Jay) White, Jr., is President of Morrison Textile Machinery Company, Fort Lawn, South Carolina - a fourth generation family business. He also held positions of Vice President Manufacturing and Finance at Morrison Berkshire Inc. that manufacture equipment for the nonwovens industry. Prior to Morrison, Jay was Materials Manager at Nabisco Brands. He has a Masters in Business from Michigan State University and a B.A. in Economics from Middlebury College. Jay is Chairman of the American Textile Machinery Association, Trustee emeritus of the Lancaster Youth Endowment, member of the Chamber of Commerce, and on the Administrative Board of First United Methodist Church. Morrison Textile Machinery is a leader in the design and manufacture of textile dyeing, finishing and shrinking equipment with export sales and service to over 50 countries. Indigo equipment from Morrison produces most of the world’s denim fabric.
Rick Nolte APJeT Board Advisor WW Helium Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. Mr. Nolte holds a B.S. degree in Biology and an M.B.A. from Lehigh University. After working at Ford Motor Company as a senior financial analyst, he joined Air Products as a Supervisor of Financial Analysis in the Chemicals Group. On assignment at the company's Pensacola, FL. site, he held positions of increasing responsibility in sales and marketing for the company's Industrial Chemicals Division. Upon his return to the home office, he successfully completed assignments in Product Management and Venture Manager in the Amines business area for raw material supply agreements and a technology partnership. After an assignment in Corporate Planning as a Strategy Process Manager for the company's major growth platforms such as Electronics, Energy Process Industries and Healthcare, Mr. Nolte accepted a position as WW Helium Business Development manager responsible for new applications and offerings using Helium and recycle systems.
Tom Lopez Board Advisor Tom Lopez is a board advisor who lives in Santa Fe and frequently meets with the senior management staff. Mr. Lopez is an inventor and a serial entrepreneur. His inventions have become the foundation of companies that he starts, builds up and then sells, either on the public market or to other companies. In the early 1980’s he helped build and take public Activision, a leading independent developer of video game products. His next two ventures pioneered interactive and multimedia CD ROM technology and were sold to Microsoft Corporation and the Washington Post Company.
