Plasma Surface Activation
APJeT's Plasma Surface Activation Systems
Plasma Treatment to Activate Surfaces
APJeT®’s Plasma Surface Activation Systems improve the surface chemistry of difficult materials eliminating the need for heat or chemicals for substrate preparation prior to dyeing, printing, and application of coatings and adhesives. The cool-temperature, atmospheric-pressure plasma process increases wettability and adhesion while reducing safety risks, reducing environmental impact and preventing degradation of the substrate material.

The APtivate™ Plasma System
Plasma Surface Activation System – spot treatment up to 8″ widths
Benefits
- Fast Speeds – Easily upgradable to increase line speeds
- Cool Temp. – No melting during line stops
- Robust – Plasma heads sustain drops and bumps; Full relay logic
- Competitive Cost – We meet or beat the competition
- Customer Focused – Your unique needs are our PRIORITY!
APJeT’s Plasma Surface Activation Systems use cool, atmospheric plasma to generate powerful surface reactions. The patented process causes chemical reactions that produce functional groups on the substrate surface, increasing wettability and improving the chemical bond strength of inks, coatings, and adhesives.
APJeT’s APtivate™ system integrates seamlessly into automated lines. With no moving parts and less required maintenance than competing systems, these systems consistently deliver consistent and hassle-free performance.
APtibot™ Plasma System
Plasma Surface Activation System – robotic mounts for 3D treatment
“Fit easily into our
existing assembly line,
giving us the needed
performance at a very
affordable price.”
APJeT’s high performance APtivate™ plasma heads can be mounted onto robotic arms to provide the same stellar plasma surface activation performance on contoured and 3-dimensional surfaces.
APJeT’s APtibot™ system is customized to fit a variety of applications from automotive lines to shoe assembly. Our team will work with you to configure each robotic arm plasma system to address your unique needs and maximize the efficiency of your process.
APtreX™ Plasma System
Plasma Surface Activation System – wide-width treatment for web and roll goods
“Customized to fit our
unique width and
provide uniform and
consistent wettability
from selvage to
selvage.”
APJeT’s APtreX™ plasma system provides a superior alternative to corona discharge treatment for surface activation of wide-width materials (1m and greater). This system is ideal for high quality roll and web goods that require high surface energies and need consistent treatment across the width.
APJeT’s APtreX™ plasma system can be readily combined with our coating plasma technology to create a truly multifunctional machine.
Specialty Plasma Systems
Custom and specialty plasma systems for unique applications
“What we do isn’t exactly common and we needed a plasma system that just didn’t come standard.
APJeT worked with us to design a custom system that fit our needs.“
APJeT provides custom and specialty plasma solutions for unique process and product demands. Our engineering and application teams are there from concept to commercialization to ensure complete customer satisfaction.

What is Surface Activation?
Surface activation is the use of plasma to create new functional groups on the surface of a substrate.
Plasma, the fourth state of matter, consists of ions, electrons, and other active gaseous species capable of chemical reactions. These plasma moieties interact with a substrate’s surface to modify its chemistry, increasing the surface energy and making it more hydrophilic (water-loving). The modified surface has superior wetting properties and more functional chemical groups capable of reacting with adhesives and resins. This results in a surface that is more receptive to inks and dyes and that forms a much stronger bond with adhesives and resins.
